Our world is experiencing something of great magnitude—for most of us, it’s unlike anything we’ve encountered in our lifetimes. And I think it’s safe to say, it’s scary and confusing.
As we all work to process the onslaught of information that is being distributed during this rapidly evolving situation, it is difficult to make decisions about what to do today, much less think about what next week will bring. And yet, despite the confusion, fear, and anxiety, I have noticed something remarkable—a deep sense of unity and a strong sense of community.
We are seeing a unified message from employers, nonprofits, healthcare providers, educators, retail, and family and friends—all focused on the collective safety and well-being of each other. We are learning from one another and supporting one another. We are doing what we in the philanthropy sector do best: we are activating the best part of humanity to solve the world’s biggest problems.
I am proud to lead an extraordinary team that has served this industry for a long time and remember challenging times in history—they remember and have persevered through them. I am proud to serve organizations on the front lines, which are rapidly developing tests for the virus and delivering care for families who are isolated due to immune-compromised illnesses. They are there for their communities, so we are proud to be there for them!
